A
threat to The Anchorage, the ca. 1780 tabby mansion on the Bay Street
Bluff long associated with the prominent William Elliott family,
thrust HBF into fulfilling its preservation mission. In saving it
from demolition, the Foundation found the strategy that has served
in rescuing seven more historic sites.
 |
A
revolving fund was established that has allowed HBF to purchase
threatened landmarks and to resell them with preservation restrictions.
The Revolving Fund has also been used to facilitate restoration
work at the Verdier House, to stabilize the George Parsons Elliott
House, to protect threatened Civil War battery sites and to
promote sensitive new development along Carteret Street. |
